🕊️ Indoor recall
Flying to you on cue, indoors. It is the most useful thing a companion parrot can know — and the module with the clearest boundary, because a reliable indoor recall is not permission to take a flighted bird outside.
Do this one first. This module assumes Target training with a stick is already working. Carry on regardless if your bird is further along than the order suggests.
Training advice, not veterinary advice. A sudden change in behaviour can have a medical cause, and no protocol here addresses one — when in doubt, an avian vet. Why this matters more than it sounds.
The steps, in order
Work a step until the bird does it reliably — not until it works once.

Check the prerequisites honestly
A charged marker, a reward the bird will cross a room for, and target training that works. Recall taught without these is taught by chasing, and a bird that has been chased is slower to come, not faster.

Choose the word and protect it
One word or whistle, used for this and nothing else, by everyone in the household. A cue that sometimes means "come here" and sometimes means "I am talking about you" is not a cue.

Zero distance
Bird on one hand, reward in the other, held a few centimetres away. Say the word, mark the step across, pay. You are attaching the word to a movement that is already happening — nothing new is being asked yet.

A hop, then a short flight
Hand to perch at thirty centimetres, then far enough that the wings have to open, then across a table. Increase in steps small enough that the bird succeeds nearly every time.

Across the room, with a helper
Two people, each with rewards, calling in turn from opposite sides. This is where it becomes a real recall, and it is also the most fun the bird has had all week, which is worth more to reliability than any amount of drilling.

Proof it before you trust it
Other rooms, other people, a television on, a stranger sitting still in the corner. A recall that only works in the quiet kitchen with you alone is a recall that will not work at the moment you need it.

Never call for something unpleasant
Do not use the recall word to get the bird for nail trims, medication or the end of out-of-cage time. Go and collect the bird for those. One recall that predicts something bad costs more than a fortnight of practice buys.

Indoors is the whole scope
A perfect indoor recall does not survive open sky, wind, a hawk or an unfamiliar horizon, and a green-cheek that gets up is usually gone. Outdoors means a properly fitted harness or a secure aviary — not a well-trained recall. Treat that as the module's boundary rather than as caution.
You will know it worked when
Your bird flies to you from across a room, in more than one room, with someone else present, and comes the first time.
